Genovese Drug Stores was a pharmacy chain founded in 1924 by Joseph Genovese Sr., located in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Genovese was acquired by J. C. Penney in 1998 for $492 million in stock and debt. Genovese had 141 stores, 5,000 employees and sales for the fiscal year ending Jan. 30, 1999 projected to reach $800 million at the time of acquisition. Five years after the acquisition, the Genovese name ceased to exist when all remaining stores were rebranded as Eckerd. The former Genovese stores that have remained open currently do business as Rite Aid, who bought Eckerd's eastern U.S. operations in 2007.
Mr. Joffe previously served as President of three publicly traded companies, Windy City Capital Corp., Solution Technology International Inc. ("STI") and Madison Sports & Entertainment, Inc., Chief Financial Officer of publicly traded WCMQ Television, Inc. and Chief Operating Officer of publicly traded Americare Health Group, Inc. While serving as Chairman of Colmena Corp., acquired NetWorth Systems, Inc., a high-tech IT provider and then sold the company to STI, an insurance industries software provider.
Prior to the above, Mr. Joffe was a founder and Chief Operating Officer of privately held Gramco, Inc., a multi-million dollar holding company, which eventually grew to 22 separate subsidiaries with over 600 employees. In his role as Chief Operating Officer, was responsible for day-to-day operations as well as new business development.
Mr. Joffe began his financial career as founder, CEO and Chairman of London Futures LTD., a Wall Street commodity brokerage firm which eventually grew to nine offices in the United States and United Kingdom with 275 licensed brokers.
